Veteran's Day

I want to thank all the veterans out there for your service. For those that don't want to here it because they may feel unworthy, I thank you anyway. What you all do for this country is sometimes underappreciated, undervalued, and misunderstood but there are some of us that always appreciates, always values, and always understands what you must go through to be in the military especially at times of war.

Sometimes it may leave you broken and lost in your reason for serving. The sacrifice may have been too great. The wounds too deep. Don't see these as who you are. You are not your wounds. You are someone that has very specialized knowledge to share and pass on to other veterans that have gone through similar situations. Find purpose in your situation and helping others will actually help you more. This will lead you to healing those wounds.

How to Raise Kids You Want to Keep

I came across this book by accident while doing research on how to write a book proposal. I thought it was a made up book. I typed it in to Amazon and it was real! 

How to Raise Kids You Want to Keep was written by Jerry R. Day, Ed.D. This book is amazing especially if you are having a hard time getting your kids to listen to you or if you have a major problem that you don't know how to fix. This book gives you ideas for behavioral adjustments that work. He even has a special section on how to deal with a child that has ADHD. I have a child that has ADD and it works with him just fine.

He gives about 10 different techniques for various issues. Some technique works better for specific types of children and as a parent you'll know if it will work for yours. It works to modify behaviors like, finally getting them to do a chore that you've asked them to do a hundred times, temper tantrums, disrespect, stealing, or bullying. 

You take very specific steps and change a behavior one issue at a time. It may take a little while if there are a lot of areas but the main end goal is to get your child to "live under parental authority." This will make parenting a lot easier.

I haven't read each technique yet but what I've read it is truly an amazing book to help you modify bad behavior in your child.

A Return to Love

Has anyone read the book, A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson?

This book changed my life. It helped me to see life in a whole new way. It made me realize what my focus was on which was all the negative in my life. But it goes much deeper than that. It teaches you to live a love-based life. It help you to see that every choice you make, rather you are aware of it or not, can be love-based or fear-based. If you become aware of your choices and thoughts, you can make amazing changes in your life. It can lead you to a life of inner peace and calm.

How many people have that in their lives? Not many I'm sure. This mindset works miracles! There is so much more to this book than what I've written here. Give it a read and let me know what you think.

Personal Growth, Painful?

If you ask anyone that's been living with abusive or toxic relationships whether they want a better, healthier life, you'd hear a big yes. But actually doing the work to get there is almost too painful to try. You have to stand up for yourself and not allow the abuse to happen again. This takes inner strength which has been most likely depleted by the abuser. You need a concrete plan which is most likely derailed by the abuser. They always seem to be one step ahead. 

What can you do?

Heal yourself. One step at a time. Know your worth. Take responsibility for what path your life takes with every thought and every action. Rebuild your life. Any way you can.

Isn't this an awesome quote. 

Do you have something in your heart that you would love to do but too many things stand in your way? 

We let too many things keep us from following our dreams. It may feel impossible or you may feel that you have too many obligations to even begin to try.

I believe we all have a purpose and we need to follow that purpose. That purpose gives us strength and it's our gift to share with the world. When we are on the path to fulfill our purpose we are filled with a sense we are enough. We feel happy and calmer. We are giving our best selves to the world.

If it does all that then it should give you the permission to follow your dreams. It should make you feel obligated to follow your dreams. If you are meant to give this to the world and you don't then we are all missing out on something really special.

Don't die with your music still inside you. Go follow your dreams. Even small steps toward it will bust open doors to get you where you are meant to be.

Wednesday's Compass

This came into play when my teenager insulted me last week. She is a good kid and a loving child but on this particular day she insulted me and I was quick tempered and very insulted. I realized after reading this passage in preparation for this post that I should see her tirades or emotional tantrums as something that's not about me. Easier said than done. But when time had past, I sat down and talked to her. I realized it wasn't about me. She was seeing the situation through her eyes and she saw that I was in the wrong. Once the emotions were out of it, she realized that the problem wasn't what she thought. We worked through it. My plan for the next blow up with her or with anyone is to see that they are seeing something unjust in their world and staying cool with eliminate the damage that would be caused if I reacted and added to the problem. This will be difficult because the attacks seem personal. The only thing I can do is try and try until I can achieve it. Even staying cool a little bit will help. This doesn't mean I will take mouth. This means I won't add to it until she is in the right frame of mind to hear it.

Do you feel something's missing in your life?

We live our lives day by day trying to fill it with the things we feel that will make us happy. We look for external sources like, a new relationship, the perfect house, the best job, etc.

But, do you still feel something is missing even after you achieve your newest goals?

I was forever looking for the next thing to achieve barely enjoying the accomplishments along the way. I wanted a certain life and I had a 'To Do' list and bullied my way down the list and not feeling all that happy.

So how can you begin to find happiness?

For me, it starts with Spirituality. You may think that this isn't for you or a ton of other negative thoughts. I thought a lot of them, too, at one point. But, there is a new movement concerning spirituality, and I wanted to investigate if it had any merit. What I found was a whole new world out there. I started to fill my life with the right stuff and I no longer feel like I'm missing anything from life and I feel happy.

I hope to fill this blog with posts sharing what I've found so you can build a life where you feel nothing is missing in your life.

I'm back...again!

My life has taken another turn. This blog was about writing and mostly writing in the young adult category. I tried to write young adult but the universe had another idea.

Let me tell you a bit about myself and my work. I've written a book that I hope will be published one day. The working title is The Heal Perspective: Real Tools That Heal Abuse and Manage Symptoms of PTSD and Anxiety. (A working title.)

I've developed a six weeks course using everything I've learned by so many teachers from programs on T.V. to articles to books to a lot of my own insights over the last twenty years. It didn't take me that long to heal from the childhood abuse I endured, but I had undiagnosed PTSD that kept my world chaotic and full of anxiety. It came to light after my husband came back from serving in the Iraq war. He received paperwork informing him about the signs and symptoms of PTSD. When I looked over those symptoms, he had one and it lasted briefly. Then, I started to realize that I had almost all of them. On the one hand, it was a relief to know that I wasn't crazy or anxious because of weakness in mind or my inability to rise above my issues. I had something real. But, it was also overwhelming because at the time there didn't seem like a lot of help out there for this and there certainly wasn't a lot of help for those that didn't have a lot of money. My husband returned with no job (a lay off at work), a new baby on the way, and our health care due to be cut off. It was a difficult time, but within six months, things started to be okay again, but life went on and my PTSD was forgotten for the most part.

There's a section after this point that I had health issues. I had severe migraines, depression, and low energy. I won't bore you with all of my miserable details, but eventually, I hit rock bottom. I needed help. I didn't know where to turn. I prayed.

What came into my life was real tools to help me while I worked through my issues. It was a trial and error, but I'm able to handle triggers caused from my PTSD and keep myself from freaking out every time I had a trigger. It helped panic attacks and anxiety spirals.

I use spiritual practices along with behavioral adjustments. Today, I live my life full of hope, peace, and calm, well as calm as you can with three kids and a hubby.

I hope to fill this blog with information and insights from any area I feel that will help deal with anxiety, PTSD, abuse, parenting issues, and anything about life and coping with it.
